Town Creek

Location: Town Creek Trip Leader: Carin Burford

This event is in the past.

Town Creek is a great introduction to creeking. If you have Ocoee lite skills and a good roll, come join in on the fun. This creek flows into Lake Guntersville. The section we will be running contains 18+ class III rapids that are "drop-pool" and most are relatively straight-forward "read and run" rapids. About 2/3rds of the way through we will come upon "blockage". It is a class V rapid that I (and the group) will portage. It is runnable for those with the appropriate skill and at the right level. If you are one of the club's resident bada$$ boaters, I'll point out the line and be ready with a rope and camera. The run is rain dependent, but holds out longer than any other Alabama Creek. If we get more rain and it gets too high, we will make alternate plans (possibly for another creek in the area of equivalent skill level). A word about the take out, there is a lake paddle of 1.5 miles to a trail that is 0.5 mile. That being said, we are working on alternate arrangements (of a motorized variety) for the takeout. (This means bring a couple of $$ for our boat captain. Couple of other tips: 1) have flotation in your boat; 2) bring your rope and first aid kit; 3) this is NOT a roadside creek, so plan accordingly (breakdown paddle, hand paddles, etc); 4) prepare to dress for warmth (layers, skull caps, pogies); 5) it is gorgeous(bring your waterproof camera). Email me by Wednesday, February 17th if you would like to join the trip! Always, Carin Carin.burford@gmail.com">
